“Everything happens for a reason”, pipes Clarence Liew, also known as CLO among his fans, about where he is today. The 24 year old singer-songwriter recalls his first favourite hit song when he was just 5 years old – when his family was not around, he would put on the cassette player , lie on his couch and listen to the song ‘Lemon Tree’ by Fool’s Garden over and over again.
Clarence loves soulful music – particularly pop, soul and R&B and cites Jason Mraz as one of his early inspirations, and also attributes his musical inclinations to his Eurasian roots and culture – his grandfather was a very talented musician whoplayed many instruments, such as the double bass, violin, ukulele and guitar. In his later years, he drew inspiration from artists such as Bruno Mars, Gabe Bondoc, and Jeremy Passion.
Some of the highlights that Clarence has been part of in his music career include “The YouTube Stars Concert” where he performed together with internationally renowned artists from YouTube such as David Choi, Jason Chen, Ana Free and Tiffany Alvord at The Coliseum, Hard Rock Hotel, Resorts World Sentosa.
Clarence was also featured on The Straits Times, The New Paper and 8 days magazine. Apart from that, he was also featured on 98.7FM to perform a few acoustic songs, and have also performed alongside reputable artists such as the YouTube-famed duo, Jayesslee at the Shine Festival 2012.
As of today, Clarence has a total of 2000 subscribers, almost 200,000 video views and counting on his YouTube channel. His mash-up cover of “The Wanted/Rihanna’s Glad You Came/We Found Love”, and his own renditions of hits including Jessie J’s “Price Tag” and Cody Simpson’s “Angel”, have been played daily on 98.7FM and LUSH99.5FM since September 2012 to date.
